Fundable: raccogliere fondi online
Fundable.org lets groups of people pool funds to make purchases or raise money. Similar to online auctions, Fundable's pages, called "group actions," are created by people who use this site. Each group action has a description of how much money needs to be collected and what it will do. Once enough pledges (not payments) have been collected, Fundable turns them into real payments and sends the total to the group action's organizer.
What is Fundable?
Fundable.org lets groups of people pool funds to make purchases or raise money. Similar to online auctions, Fundable's pages, called "group actions," are created by people who use this site. Each group action has a description of how much money needs to be collected and what it will do. Once enough pledges (not payments) have been collected, Fundable turns them into real payments and sends the total to the group action's organizer.
No one takes a risk when making a pledge: if a group action expires before reaching its total in pledges, Fundable deletes all pledges and never charges money. This lets you participate in a group purchase or fundraiser without worrying about what other people will do. No one pays until and unless everyone else makes a pledge.
Does Fundable sell products? What does Fundable do?
Fundable does not sell products, but rather provides a tool and a forum for online transactions to take place-- much like eBay. Unlike an online auction service, however, Fundable acts as a sort of escrow between groups of people and the person who collects their money.
What are some ways that I can use Fundable?
- Pool money for a cause with a group of people (fundraise).
- Go in on a purchase with a group of people.
- Offer a product on the condition that a minimum number of people buy in.
See the Examples page for specific ways to use Fundable. All group actions function in the same way: a group leader collects money and then carries out an objective.
Do I have to register with Fundable in order to participate in a group action?
No. All group actions accept pledges directly from their pages. Registration is only necessary if you want to organize a group action.
Who is the group leader? What does he or she do?
The group leader is the person who creates and organizes a group action. He or she is responsible for carrying out the purpose of the funds that get collected.
How much does Fundable cost?
Starting a group action or making a pledge is completely FREE.
EFFECTIVE JANUARY 5, 2006: Completed group actions (and only completed group actions) have a 10% 5% fee taken from their totals. (This does not apply to group actions created before January 5, 2006. Click here to read about fees for these older group actions).
Remember, there is no cost to set up a group action and no one pays anything if a group action expires.
How do I get my money once I have raised it?
Group leaders may receive money they have collected in one of two ways:- through their paypal account.
Note: PayPal limits how much personal accounts can receive per month to $500. For a group leader to accept more than this (after the group action has completed), he or she must sign up for a "Business" or "Premier" PayPal account, which follows a transaction fee table. - by check for a $10 flat fee.
It is completely FREE to set up a group action. Pledges also cost nothing.
Can anyone make pledge on a group action? What if I want to hide my group action?
All group actions listed on Fundable are open for any visitor's pledge. However, group leaders have the option to hide their projects from public listings.
When I make a pledge, what does Fundable do?
Fundable holds your pledge until the group action reaches its collection goal, and then collects payment. This works much like a self-serve gas station in which your credit card is "authorized" before you pump gas.
If a group action's collection falls short of its target pledge amount on deadline, Fundable deletes your pledge and you have paid nothing.
Is my credit card/payment information safe?
Fundable never handles your credit card or payment information directly and cannot store it. PayPal takes care of all payment processing.
What payment methods does Fundable use to accept pledges?
Fundable accepts pledges through Paypal, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.
Remember, pledges ARE NOT payments. You are only charged if a group action reaches its collection goal in pledges.
What currencies does Fundable accept as pledges?
Fundable currently only accepts U.S. Dollars through PayPal.
In what timezone do group actions take place?
Eastern Standard Time
What is the minimum and maximum number of participants Fundable permits per group action?
Fundable sets no limits on how many people a group leader expects to recruit. That said, Fundable reviews most group actions that aim for over 40 contributors.
This sounds great. I want to become a group leader so I can collect $10,000 for a great cause.
Unless you're in the right social position (like the head of an organization), recruiting even 30 people can prove challenging. Please read the Guide to Starting a Group Action, especially if you have ambitious plans.
How does Fundable provide a system of trust? How can I trust the group leader?
Fundable allows group leaders with an established online auction reputation to display a link to their eBay rating on their group actions.
In most cases, the weight of 20 or 25 waiting contributors creates considerable pressure for organizers to deliver on what they promise. However, the same guideline applies for group actions as for eBay auctions: ask questions and verify the trustworthiness of the organizer before making a payment.
How do I watch the progress of a group action? Why can't I see how many users have made pledges?
Each group action has 5 levels of completion:
1-25% funds raised
26-50% funds raised
51-75% funds raised
76-99% funds raised
Group action is complete. All funds have been raised.
It may seem strange that Fundable doesn't tell you how many people have pledged money toward a group action. But pooling money works best when no one worries about what other people are doing. Fundable displays a group action's progress in four percentage blocks in order to free you from this distraction.
